Getting Started

Registering for a Michigan.com account:
  1. Click on the 'Register' button in the top right.
  2. Fill out form with preferred e-mail address and password.
  3. Submit.
  4. You will get an e-mail confirming your e-mail address. Click on the confirm link in the e-mail.
What does it cost me to use Michigan.com?

Nothing. Zip. Zilch.

How do I change my homepage?

Hover over any module header and click and drag the module to another location. You will see a "drag and drop" prompt where you can place the module. See Example

How do I add modules?

In the far right column, find the master module list, hover over any of the modules in the list and click on the plus sign and the module will be added to the page automatically.

How do I delete modules?

There are two ways to delete, or deactivate, a module. A module is never really 'deleted' just deactivated and it can be re-activated at any time.

  • In the far right column, find the master module list, hover over any of the modules in the list and click on the minus sign and the module will be removed from the page automatically.
  • You can also click on the customize button, located in the top right corner of modules. This will display all the options for that customizable module. Click on deactivate and you will be prompted to confirm your deactivation.
  • How do I customize a single module?

    In the top right corner of customizable modules, click on the customize button. This will bring up all the options for that module. Select what you want to customize and click save, your changes will take effect. See Example.

    Can I use Michigan.com anywhere?

    Yes you can! Just navigate to www.michigan.com on any computer and log in. All your settings will be saved from your previous visit.

    Managing my account

    How do I change my e-mail/login?
    1. Click on Account after you've logged in.
    2. A window will pop up with all the options for changing your account.
    3. Change you're e-mail and click save.
    4. You will have to reconfirm your e-mail address, so be sure to check your e-mail and click on the confirm link
    How do I change my password?

    If you remember your password:

    1. Click on Account after you've logged in.
    2. A window will pop up with all the options for changing your account.
    3. Change you're password and click save.
    4. You will use your new password on your next login.

    If you don't remember your password:

    1. Click on Login.
    2. Click on Forgot Password? on the bottom of the pop-up window.
    3. Enter your e-mail address you use with Michigan.com
    4. An e-mail will be sent to that address, click on the reset link.
    Why can't I login?

    Did you click on the Confirm your e-mail address link in the confirmation e-mail?

    1. NO: After 7 days your account is deleted, we do not allow incorrect e-mail addresses to be used as logins. Please try re-registering and checking your spam folder for the e-mail confirmation.
    2. YES: Double check that you are using your full e-mail address i.e. user@gmail.com . Double check that you are entering your password correctly, if you do not know your password you can reset it by clicking on the Forgot Password? link in the login box.
    What if I deleted my confirmation e-mail?

    If you deleted or didn't receive your confirmation e-mail you can resend it to yourself.

    1. Make sure that you are logged in.
    2. Click on the Account link.
    3. Enter your e-mail address in the Re-send e-mail confirmation field.
    4. Submit, and check your e-mail.
    5. You may need to check your spam folder if your spam filters are set up to not accept e-mails from people not in your address book.

    General Issues

    Why is my page not being saved?

    Michigan.com relies on cookies, little pieces of information that tell us who you are. Without these enabled we cannot save your modules' location and settings. We don't save any personal information in these, and we certainly wouldn't think of giving them away!

    To enable cookies:

    1. Internet Explorer: Click on Tools » Internet Options » Privacy and move the slider to "Medium". Close this window and refresh the page. See Example
    2. Firefox (Mac): Click Firefox » Preferences » Privacy » and make sure "Accept cookies from sites" is checked. Close this window and refresh the page. See Example
    3. Safari (Win): Click on the Cog wheel (upper right corner) and select click Preferences » Security and make sure "Only from sites I visit" is checked. Close this window and refresh the page. See Example
    4. Safari (Mac): Click Safari » Preferences » Security » and make sure "Only from sites I visit" is checked. Close this window and refresh the page. See Example
    Why don't you support Internet Explorer 6?

    Due to the advanced technology that Michigan.com uses, it does not support Internet Explorer 6.

    However Michigan.com does work on all browsers listed below. We have included a download link for more information on each. We highly recommend updating your browser to one of these or Internet Explorer 8 -- the most up to date version of Internet Explorer
